Yesterday I went with some of my family over to visit with my sister in law and my nephews. When we got there Karsen, 2.5yo, had just gotten home from school and he was getting ready for his nap. My sister in law put him down to sleep and we all visited for a while. Karsen who normally sleeps for 2 or more hours in the afternoon got up about 30 minutes after he was put down with a 104 degree temperature. My sister in law gave him some tylenol and he stared throwing up right away.
At this point we left.
She took him in to the doctors office and was waiting to see the doctor when my nephew when totally limp in her arms and passed out. They called an ambulance and rushed them to the hospital right away. Where he was tested and confirmed positive for H1N1.
Now for us it’s just a waiting game. The incubation period for H1N1 is the same as the normal flu with most symptoms showing up withing 48 hours. In my nephews case it was almost exactly 24 hours from the time he was exposed at speech therapy the day before to when he got sick.
I have never been so worried in my whole life. I am not normally one to give into concern and worry but the thought that in just a few hours myself, my husband or my baby could be hit with a high fever and bad flu symptoms just has me almost in tears. I am having a hard time concentrating at work, and to make matters worse just the other day I read some terrible story about how this woman lost her baby and almost died from swine flu.
Please keep me and my family in your thoughts during the upcoming days.
